Spa Quilters Quilt Show

I know I still have to tell you who else is coming to the Daylesford Craft Experience but before that I need to tell you about something that is happening in Daylesford this weekend.....

Our local and wonderfully talented quilt group, the Spa Quilters are having their bi-annual quilt show at the Daylesford Primary School Gym and if you are in the area drop in and say hello.  Information about the weekend can be found here

And on Saturday morning, a young girlie that you might know called Jodie Carleton of Ric Rac is very generously coming to play and talk about her fantastic patterns.  There will be copies of every pattern Jodie has available at our Threadneedle stall.

Daylesford Craft Experience 2012

Its on!!!

We are pleased to announce that the Daylesford Craft Experience is on again. 
This time we are going to be enjoying the milder weather so we will be crafting on the weekend of September 8 and 9.

Our two wonderful and talented designers this year, are Jodie Carleton from Ric Rac

and Natalie Lymer from Cinderberry Stitches. 

Two only you ask... that is because we are going to be a little different this year.

On the Saturday, along with the amazing designs the patterns of which you will be getting in your goodies bag we have some activities in the afternoon that you have the option of joining in to. 

These are to do with yarn and we have two very talented people who will be demonstrating and answering all your knitting and crochet questions along with any felting issues you might have.  Who are they you might ask.... well you might have to wait until my next blog as they deserve their own space

In addition during that afternoon, Jodie is going to talk to us about her journey in setting up her own business - again this is an optional chat but if you are interested in selling your creations on line and beyond it might be worthwhile.

On Sunday everything changes.  

On this day you will need to bring your sewing machine.  The day is limited to 40 people and Natalie will be there teaching us how she creates such amazing patterns.  An existing design will be used and we learn all Natalie's tricks and traps in this all day Master Class.

Once again we are at Peppers Springs Retreat which has undergone a major upgrade and looks absolutely amazing.

Hand Printed Fabrics

I know its been a loonnngggg time between posts - heaps has been happening on the family front as well as my having stalls at some lovely quilt shows in the area - namely Melton and Ballan. 

We have had quite a lot of fabric come in lately - I appear to have a new obsession with chooks (mildly freaked out by this - we have some demented chickens at home - needing some serious therapy - they have made sure that I am not generally a chook kind of girl).

I had to get some more of Kristen Doran's prints and stitcheries in so I thought you could see just how lovely they are:
Winter's nest is a favorite of mine - I have seen it finished as a skirt panel, a cushion or stretched over canvas - Kristen has just finished an amazing quilt with it in fluro so your imagination is the limit.

A more recent addition to the range is the Gypsy Caravan.

These are just a couple of the designs we have as well as the stitcheries like this Retro Caravan cushion.....

Well, I can finally say IT'S ON AGAIN! A little bit different, a little bit later in the year and a lot more fun with craft.

Fusible Vinyl

I got this amazing stuff in a while ago.  It took me a while to get a chance to play with it but it has been worth the wait.

The Make It range have done it again with this fusible vinyl.  It can be applied to any cotton or linen (to date that is all I have put it on but stay tuned).  All you do is iron your fabric really well (no creases) then peel off the vinyl from its backing and using the paper it came off (or a tea towel) iron it straight on to the right side of the fabric.

So far I have made two bags with plans for more things. 

 

The monkey fabric was turned through to make the front and looked quite creased when I did that.  So I went back to the ironing board and simply ironed it again.  This stuff is seriously awesome as the creases disappeared!!!

With the bird bag, I simply used bias binding and had to pin it all together - again a bit of ironing and all is good again.

I am quite proud of this second bag as the design is from my head......  And it worked!!!!

Just make sure that you cover the whole vinyl with something before you iron or it will cause holes.  It does come with some instructions as well which is great.

If you would like to play with the fusible vinyl you can buy it from our on-line shop or come in and have a look at it... I am sure I will be playing some more very soon...  I want to see if it can cover a stitchery.... if so I am absolutely hooked.

New Year, New Website, New Fabric

Hi there

Hope you have enjoyed a relaxing break with family and friends eating, drinking and generally being merry!!!  I know we have and the scales are telling me how much!!

We have been working away at creating our new look website which includes an on-line store that we will be continuing to build on.  We are still refining the elements but it is definitely up and running!!  Go and take a look here - we hope you like it... we certainly do..

Heaps of fabric has arrived in store and I have been very slack in letting you know about it.  However one range I must mention is the gorgeous Daisy Chain range by Prints Charming. Here's a couple of photos of the fabrics which have been printed by Kokka and are on a slightly heavier weight fabric...

I'm loving the hexagon pattern and can see a hexagon shaped quilt in the very near future being made with this and the others in the range.  You can see the available range in our on-line shop (yay).

Its Christmas Time

The end of this year has been eventful to say the least.... Our oldest boy is finishing Primary School so there has been a lot of presentations and celebrations that we thought we would need to go to.  That was until he came down with Chicken pox!!!! And yes he was immunised which basically seems to mean you get a mild dose which is great but doesn't let you be with your friends when you really want to be...

All going well (?) our youngest should get it on Christmas day.... yes he is immunised as well....

So cards and calls and messages haven't happened and presents have only just been finalised ..... but we have got there. 

Tomorrow Threadneedle will be closed until noon on December 27th, so go and have a safe and enjoyable festive season with your loved ones ... XXX

Put a little bit of Prints Charming into your festivities

What a year!!

I cant seem to keep up with both family commitments and getting all I want to say to you about the things that are happening at the moment....

You might have heard that the wonderful girls at Prints Charming have created another range of absolutely beautiful fabric - we are hoping to see this very soon.

I am happy to say that we have also ordered and received some fabulous hand printed panels and kits from them.  The following birds are simply stunning... they go with the new range and are just begging to be embroidered on.

And here are the amazing Christmas decorations that come with 12 prints to stitch on, backing fabric and threads - all you need!!

Both the birds and decs come with a great little stitching guide that gives you all you need to get going and trying some new stitches.

But wait there is more .... but that will have to wait until next week as I need to show you all the beautiful prints Kristen has sent me as well....

And don't forget that the Daylesford Makers Market Twilight Market is on this Saturday at the Primary School from 3.00pm until 7.30pm so come on in and get those last minute presents (I know I said the p word ... how far have you got!!)
